Danish foodie website:

MANFREDS: Hearty, classic Danish everyday food with a twist served in huge portions and made of top-quality produce. It’s a totally low-key eatery created and owned by former noma sous-chef Christian F. Puglisi, Kim Rossen og Lasse Bertelsen. It’s primarily a take away with a few tables where you sit and enjoy your meal or sit at the counter. It’s self service (cafeteria) – only the food is brought to you. I love this place. Open Tuesday – Sunday 5:30 – 9 pm, Saturday – Sunday brunch 10 am -2 pm

Manfred’s Takeaway is best described as a modern version of fine-dining without the frills.

Chef Christian F. Puglisi—who has worked the kitchens of some of the most enviable restaurants in the world including Noma and El Bulli to namedrop but a few—has a different vision for the way people should enjoy food. By creating a no-fuss, DIY dining experience, where customers order at the counter and set their own table with cutlery and wine glasses, the focus is on offering the best food at the best price.

It’s hard to describe Manfred’s style of cuisine because it’s clearly not bound by any geographical or stylistic constraints. At it’s core, Manfred’s is about good food, done simply and using the best and freshest local produce.

Keeping menu ideas fresh is important too, with a new list of offerings every Wednesday. And with the price of mains kept to under 100DKK, you don’t need any more excuses to dine out on a weekly basis. Address: Jægersborggade 40 2200 København N Tel 3696 6593 Google Maps Website:

Although there are items from the 1920′s, 30′s and 40′s – even 1900′s and 1910′s – the shop’s biggest strength is definitely 1950′s dresses!

Perhaps my favorite spot in city, this place has got everything the heart of a vintage-lover can desire. The prices are high, but the selection is so exquisite that it’s justified. The shop is decorated like a boudoir and the atmosphere is very intimate and friendly.

Pretty items are strewn out on all surfaces and are ordered according to what is aesthetically pleasing rather than into logical categories. This makes it wonderful to browse and have your heart filled to the brim with beauty, but if you are looking for something specific, you should ask the shop’s owner. She is very knowledgeable and helpful, and also has a lot of things in the back, which you only get to see if you ask very nicely…

Once again, I’m guiding you to the magical Nørrebro (I have just moved back here and am loving it!) and to one of my favorite streets, Jægersborggade. Among the shops offering hand -made chocolate, ecological ingredients and the hip café’s (see also article of Cafe Retro on the same street) there is a tiny heaven for ladies: Damernes Magasin.

This “Ladies’ Store” (roughly translated) has managed to find plenty of delightful treasures from Denmark and abroad to offer to their clientele. The clothes come mainly from Ganni, Best Behavior, Wauw and various small Danish designers. To get the best image of their range is to simply visit.

They also sell a little jewelry from smaller designers, as well as selected variety of shoes. The shop itself is like a candy -vintage-looking wallpaper, old decoration items and rough wooden platforms create an unique look for it. As the shop is not a chain clothing store, but run by its owner, Helle, it is also possible to visit the shop outside of the general opening times. Just call her and ask for a suitable time.

The cutest dresses in town!

On the street with the most of variety in Copenhagen, Istedgade, you can find a small shop offering you a trip back in time, straight to the fifties. Dixie Grey offers a great deal of beautiful clothing, jewelry and shoes, all in the style they call “Modern vintage”. The best way to describe their clothing is found from their webpage: “Humor, nostalgia and stories are all essential to the design of Dixie Grey clothing”. See it for yourselves, this shop is worth experiencing!

Not that the clothes wouldn’t be enough, Dixie Grey also sells Vivienne Westwood’s amazing shoes!

ps. After shopping at Dixies, continue your Mad Men -inspired day with a drink at The Jane…

Getting there

Design guide:

The 250S bus runs from The airport to the centre of town and various stops beyond, handy if you have a hotel en-route. The cost is DKK27 & it takes about 30min depending on traffic

You can use your stip card on buses & metro so you punch in the time when you board. Stamp twice for 2 zones & travel for up to an hour on the transport.

Search on this page to see how the bus runs:

This suggests taking the 5A bus,%20Copenhagen,%20Denmark,%20Denmark&daddr=%20Islands%20Brygge%2079A,%20Copenhagen,%20Denmark,%20Denmark&date=04/27/2012&time=09:00&hl=en&dirflg=r

Day cards are 75 per person for 24h and are valid to/from airport as well (I think).
